Charles-Api Bellefleur is an Innu from Unaman Shipit, a traditional storyteller and keeper of traditions. He is one of the last to pass on the Atanukana, the founding stories of Innu culture that carry a thousand years of knowledge. Today, he is one of the few keepers of these traditional stories that his father and grandfather told before him. To ensure their preservation and allow future Innu generations to have access to these traditional tales, Nikan Heritage has captured a complete repertoire of Atanukana, all told in Nutshimit Innu-Aimun by Charles-Api.

Preserving the stories in a format close to the oral tradition from which they originate ensures not only the preservation, documentation, and dissemination of Nutshimit Innu-Aimun* but also that of a broader cultural heritage. To facilitate access to this traditional knowledge and the learning of Innu-Aimun, we also provide transcriptions and translations of these tales.
